All-rounder Mosaddek Hossain has earned a recall to Bangladesh’s One-Day International squad nearly four years after his last appearance in the format. The 29-year-old last played an ODI for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in August 2022 and has now been included in the squad for the opening two matches of the upcoming series against Australia.
Bangladesh most recently played an ODI series against New Zealand in April. Two members of that squad, Afif Hossain and Mahidul Islam, have been left out for the Australia series. Their places have been taken by Nurul Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain.
Mahidul Islam did not feature in any of the matches during the New Zealand series, while Afif Hossain played one game and scored 27 runs from 49 deliveries. Explaining the changes, chief selector Habibul Bashar said that Mahidul had not been given many opportunities and that Afif could also have been afforded more chances than he received. He described the latest selections as a “technical change” in the team’s composition.
Speaking about Mosaddek’s inclusion, Bashar highlighted the all-rounder’s recent batting form and his suitability for the middle order.
“Mosaddek is batting very well at the moment. His skills will be more useful for us at number six. He is an experienced cricketer, has played for Bangladesh before and is in good form in the Premier League. We will utilise his all-round ability,” Bashar said.
Mosaddek’s domestic performances have been particularly impressive. Representing Abahani in the current Premier League season, he has scored 310 runs in six innings at an average of 77.50 and a strike rate of 129.17. Those figures have strengthened his case for a return to the national side.
Nurul Hasan, who also returns to the ODI squad, has scored 248 runs in eight innings in the same competition. Bashar said the selectors considered him a stronger option for batting positions six and seven, particularly because of his ability to contribute as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Bangladesh will begin the three-match ODI series against Australia on 9 June at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The second and third matches will be played at the same venue on 11 and 14 June respectively. Following the ODI series, the two sides are scheduled to contest a three-match Twenty20 International series.
