Bangladesh’s national cricket team has received a significant financial reward following its historic One-Day International (ODI) series victory over Australia. Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque has announced a bonus of Tk 20 million for the players in recognition of their achievement.
The information was confirmed on Saturday through a press release issued by the minister’s Press Secretary, Ashraful Alam. The announcement comes after Bangladesh secured the three-match ODI series by winning the opening two matches against Australia.
Having already claimed victories in the first and second matches, Bangladesh has taken an unassailable lead in the series. As a result, the third and final ODI, scheduled for tomorrow, presents the hosts with an opportunity to complete a clean sweep of the visitors.
The series marks Bangladesh’s first bilateral ODI contest against Australia in 16 years. The opening match produced a landmark result as Bangladesh defeated Australia by 86 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. It was Bangladesh’s first ODI victory over Australia since the memorable win in Cardiff in 2005.
Bangladesh followed up that performance with another victory in the second ODI. The hosts won the match by five wickets under the DLS method, a result that also secured the series. By winning the first two matches, Bangladesh ensured that Australia could no longer recover in the three-match contest.
The achievement carries additional significance for Bangladesh cricket. With this series victory, England remains the only major international side against whom Bangladesh has yet to win a bilateral series. The success against Australia therefore represents another notable milestone in the team’s progress in international cricket.
The bonus announcement reflects official recognition of the team’s performance in the series. No details were provided regarding how the Tk 20 million reward will be distributed among the players and team members.
