A 22-year-old Brazil football supporter was killed in a motorcycle accident while travelling to attend a supporters’ procession in Borhanuddin Upazila of Bhola on Saturday afternoon. The accident occurred at approximately 5:15 pm in the Daulatkhan Road intersection area of the upazila.
The deceased, Md Ismail, was the son of Md Maksud of Chowkdhosh village under Kachia Union. The incident also left a pedestrian, identified as Sabuj, seriously injured. He was later referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment.
According to local sources, a procession organised by Brazil supporters had been scheduled to begin at around 4:00 pm. To participate in the event, Ismail set out on a motorcycle from his home area in Chowkdhosh and headed towards Borhanuddin.
While travelling through the Daulatkhan Road intersection area, the motorcycle reportedly lost control. The vehicle then struck Sabuj, who was walking along the road. Following the collision, the motorcycle veered off the roadway and fell into a roadside ditch.
Local residents responded immediately and rescued both individuals from the scene. They were transported to Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Upon arrival, the attending physician examined Ismail and declared him dead. Sabuj, who sustained serious injuries, received initial medical care at the health complex before being transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Dr Rafsana Nishat of Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex confirmed Ismail’s death. Health officials stated that he was pronounced dead after being brought to the hospital following the accident.
The fatal incident affected the planned programme of the Brazil supporters. Organisers temporarily suspended the procession after learning of the accident.
Police also visited the hospital after receiving information about the incident. Abu Jafar, a Sub-Inspector of Borhanuddin Police Station, said officers were gathering details about the accident and examining the circumstances surrounding the event. He added that necessary legal procedures would be undertaken in accordance with the findings of the inquiry.
Family members later collected Ismail’s body from the hospital and took it to his home.
