Dhaka Metropolitan Police have apprehended 58 suspects during a sweeping anti-crime operation across the capital’s volatile Tejgaon division. Executed by multiple local stations, the tactical crackdown targeted known criminal dens in an effort to neutralise local street syndicates, disrupt narcotics distribution, and suppress a recent surge in muggings and petty offences.
The widespread breakthroughs were confirmed on Wednesday by Niaz Mehedi, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media and Public Relations Division. According to police intelligence reports, the synchronised raids took place throughout Tuesday, catching various gangs off guard in both congested residential areas and commercial zones.
An operation of this scale required extensive inter-station communication and planning to map out multiple locations simultaneously. By launching the raids at the exact same hour across the division, law enforcement teams effectively prevented high-risk suspects from fleeing into neighbouring sectors or seeking refuge with affiliated street crews.
The total of 58 detentions was distributed across six participating police stations within the division as follows:
| Police Station Jurisdictions | Number of Individuals Arrested |
| Mohammadpur Police Station | 23 |
| Tejgaon Police Station | 11 |
| Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station | 9 |
| Adabor Police Station | 8 |
| Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station | 5 |
| Hatirjheel Police Station | 2 |
| Total Division-Wide Arrests | 58 |
The 24-hour blitz netted a highly diverse demographic of suspects, spanning teenagers, local gang enforcers, and middle-aged individuals suspected of running underground rings. Metropolitan law enforcement authorities published the names and ages of all 58 individuals processed during the sweep:

Nearly forty per cent of the operation’s total arrests were concentrated inside the densely populated Mohammadpur sector. The neighbourhood has recently drawn heavy public scrutiny, with local resident associations aggressively demanding greater police visibility to combat gang culture. Following their initial booking and processing, all 58 detainees were escorted under heavy guard to the metropolitan court system on Wednesday afternoon. Formal investigations into the suspects’ individual histories and gang ties remain ongoing.
