Police in Chattogram’s Boalkhali have arrested a local Youth League leader in connection with a case filed over an alleged attack during the student-public movement.
The arrested man has been identified as Jager Hossain Bacha, 40. Police detained him from his home in the Chandarpara area of West Gomdandi, under Ward 9 of Boalkhali municipality, at around midnight on Monday, 3 August.
According to police, Bacha is the son of the late Abdul Motaleb and is a resident of the West Gomdandi Chandarpara area. Based on his local political identity, he had been serving as the publicity secretary of the ward unit of the Youth League.
Boalkhali police station officer-in-charge Mozzafar Hossain said Bacha was named as an accused in a case filed over an alleged attack during the student-public movement. He was arrested as part of the investigation into the case, the officer said.
After completing the necessary legal procedures, police produced him before a court.
The authorities have not disclosed detailed information about the specific allegations brought against Bacha. It was also not immediately clear which sections of the law had been applied in the case. Police, however, confirmed that he was arrested as an accused and subsequently sent to court in accordance with legal procedure.
The arrest comes amid continuing legal action over incidents of violence and attacks allegedly linked to the student-public movement. Law enforcement agencies have said that cases arising from such incidents are being investigated and that action is being taken against individuals identified as suspects. Authorities have also maintained that allegations are being examined through investigation before further legal steps are taken.
