Bangladesh Players Climb ICC Rankings

Following Bangladesh’s 2–1 One Day International series victory over New Zealand, the International Cricket Council (ICC) updated its latest rankings, reflecting notable gains for several Bangladeshi cricketers across batting, bowling and all-round categories. The improvement comes in the wake of strong individual performances during the series.

The three-match ODI series saw Bangladesh’s pace attack collectively take 18 wickets, with significant contributions from Nahid Rana, Shoriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman. Their performances resulted in marked upward movement in the ICC bowling rankings.

Nahid Rana, who claimed eight wickets across the series, moved up 16 places to reach 48th position. Shoriful Islam, with five wickets from three matches, climbed 11 places and is now ranked 28th. Mustafizur Rahman, despite playing only one match in the series, also made a strong impact with a five-wicket haul, advancing 14 places to 41st.

In the batting rankings, Najmul Hossain Shanto registered the most significant improvement among Bangladesh’s top-order batters. He rose 11 places to 32nd after scoring the only century of the series by a player from either side. Litton Das also gained ground, moving up 15 places to 65th following a series tally of 129 runs, including a half-century.

In the all-rounder category, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz improved his position after contributing in both departments during the series. He scored 36 runs and took two wickets, which helped him rise into joint third place with a rating of 275, alongside Mohammad Nabi.

At the top of the all-rounder rankings, Azmatullah Omarzai of Afghanistan remains in first place with 329 rating points, while Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza holds second position with 276 points.

The latest ICC update also incorporated performances from the first Twenty20 International between Bangladesh and New Zealand. Towhid Hridoy moved up nine places to 39th in the T20 batting rankings following an unbeaten 51-run innings.
