Former Chattogram-3 (Sandwip) MP Mahfuzur Rahman Mita was arrested from his residence in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Tuesday (22 September), according to the information available.
Following his arrest, Mita was taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Minto Road. However, the authorities had not immediately disclosed the specific case under which he was arrested or detailed the allegations against him.

During the 11th Parliament, Mita served as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Shipping. His political activities have also been linked closely with Sandwip, the constituency he represented in Parliament across three terms.
His arrest comes amid a period of increased law enforcement activity involving Awami League leaders and activists in parts of the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Police recently reported conducting an operation following a procession involving Awami League and its affiliated organisations in Gulshan, with a number of activists reportedly arrested in connection with the incident.
