In a shocking incident in Trishal, Mymensingh, a young student named Muntasir Fahim (22) was brutally murdered with a sharp weapon, allegedly by his close friend, Ohidul Islam (22). The tragedy occurred on Thursday night (18 December) around 8:45 pm at the Trishal Government Nazrul Academy field. In a bizarre turn of events, the accused himself surrendered at the local police station shortly after the incident, carrying a blood-stained “Chinese axe.” The victim, Fahim, was the son of Badal Mia from Chikna Monohar village, while the accused, Ohidul, hails from Dorirampur village in Trishal municipality.
According to family members, Fahim was an undergraduate student at a university in Malaysia and had returned to Bangladesh on holiday four months ago. He was scheduled to fly back to Malaysia this coming Saturday, with his classes slated to resume on 25 December. His bags were packed and his departure was imminent, but his life was cut short just two days before his flight. Fahim’s father, Rezaul Islam, broke down in tears, questioning why his son, who spent most of his time abroad, was targeted with such extreme malice.
Police sources revealed that around 9:00 pm on Thursday, Ohidul Islam arrived at the Trishal Police Station wielding a sharp Chinese axe. He reportedly confessed to the officers, saying, “Fahim destroyed my life, so I killed him.” Following Ohidul’s detailed directions, the police rushed to the Nazrul Academy school field, where they discovered Fahim’s lifeless body lying near a water tank on the eastern side of the grounds. The authorities recovered the body and sent it to the Mymensingh Medical College morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the extent of the injuries.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Trishal Police Station, Mansur Ahmed, stated that the two young men were known to be very close friends. While the accused claimed that the victim had “ruined his life,” he has not yet specified the exact nature of the grievance. The police are currently interrogating the detained suspect to uncover the true motive behind this cold-blooded murder. Legal proceedings are underway, and the incident has left the local community in a state of mourning and disbelief as they grapple with the sudden loss of a promising student.
