SHIBPUR, Narsingdi – A tragic road accident in Shibpur Upazila, Narsingdi, claimed the lives of two young men on Monday evening when their motorcycle collided with a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 pm on the Shibpur-Manohardi regional road near Pachar Bari. Three passengers aboard the auto-rickshaw, including the driver, sustained injuries in the crash.
The deceased have been identified as Mahmudul Hasan, 22, son of Moktar Hossain of Joymangal village, Baghav Union, Shibpur, and Md Shafik, 21, son of Abdul Jalil of Sonmania village, Kapasia, Gazipur.
According to police and relatives of the victims, Shafik and Mahmudul were returning to Shibpur after completing business in Manohardi. Eyewitnesses reported that as the motorcycle approached Pachar Bari, it collided head-on with an oncoming auto-rickshaw. Both vehicles suffered severe damage.
Mahmudul Hasan died instantly at the scene due to the impact. Shafik, who was critically injured, was rushed to hospital by local residents, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. Meanwhile, the three occupants of the auto-rickshaw sustained moderate injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Officer-in-Charge Afzal Hossain of Shibpur Model Police Station confirmed that the bodies were recovered and transported to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examinations. He added that formal legal proceedings are now underway and that an investigation has been launched to determine the precise cause of the accident.
Road safety advocates have expressed concern over the frequency of collisions on regional highways, particularly at night, urging both drivers and local authorities to exercise greater caution.
