AySay Releases Inspiring New Single Titled “Malala”

Copenhagen-based trio AySay, celebrated for their distinctive fusion of Anatolian folk, Kurdish tradition, and Nordic electronic soundscapes, have unveiled their poignant new single, “Malala.” Known for their ability to intertwine sensitivity with subtle protest, the band—led by vocalist and composer Luna Ersahin—continues to craft music that speaks as much to the heart as it does to the conscience. With “Malala,” AySay deepens this exploration, combining personal narratives with broader social and political reflection in a way that profoundly resonates with listeners.

The single draws its inspiration from the extraordinary life of Pakistani human rights activist Malala Yousafzai, who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban. Ersahin remarked, “Reading Malala’s story in her own words completely reshaped my understanding of activism. Her courage was not spontaneous; it was the result of a lifelong commitment to effecting change. Malala survived, but my Kurdish sister, Iran’s Jina Mahsa Amini, did not. That difference remains deeply with me.”

Musically and thematically, the track centres on activism, survival, and the harsh inequalities that determine who lives and who does not. Intriguingly, the Kurdish meaning of the song’s title—“Mal”—translates as “home.” Through this composition, AySay pays homage not only to Malala and Jina Mahsa Amini, but also evokes a shared sense of home in resistance, remembrance, grief, and perseverance.

Alongside the single, AySay have announced their forthcoming third studio album, also titled Malala, set for release in spring 2026 via V2 Records. The album promises to continue exploring themes of identity, activism, and the intricate interplay between community and selfhood.

The band is also embarking on an extensive European tour, performing across Denmark, France, Belgium, and Germany, including cities such as Copenhagen, Paris, Ghent, Brussels, Berlin, and Hamburg. Exhibitions and live shows are planned for Turkey and various Danish cities throughout April and May, further cementing their presence on the international stage.

With “Malala,” AySay reaffirms their position as one of contemporary Europe’s most compelling musical voices—artists whose work seamlessly marries artistry with social awareness, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide.
