Renowned actress Afsana Ara Bindu, a familiar face in Bangladesh’s film and television industry, has finally opened up about a personal matter she had kept private for years—her divorce from husband Asif Salahuddin Malik. After maintaining secrecy for an extended period, Bindu addressed the subject candidly during a recent television podcast, confirming that her marriage legally ended in 2022.
Speaking openly, Bindu stated, “Yes, I got divorced in 2022. No formal announcement was ever made, which understandably led to confusion. Many assumed I was still married, while others refrained from asking out of hesitation or respect. The reality is that I am no longer married.” She added that their marriage had been brief and that they had previously spent a long period living separately.
The actress further revealed that they had been living apart since 2017. When asked about the reasons behind the divorce, she chose not to divulge details out of respect for others involved. “Some are curious about the reasons, but another person’s life is entwined with this story. Out of respect, I prefer not to elaborate,” she explained.
Addressing rumours about stepping away from acting, Bindu clarified that her decision to take a break was entirely her own. “It was not due to external pressure. I wanted to dedicate time to my family and lead a life akin to that of an ordinary person. That choice naturally led me away from work,” she said.
Bindu’s career has seen a noticeable hiatus over the years. Following her marriage in October 2014, she withdrew from the media spotlight. Audiences caught a glimpse of her return in 2019 during a marathon event, though she did not resume regular acting. In 2022, she appeared alongside Arifin Shuvo in the film Unish20, yet she has remained selective about her professional engagements since.
The actress first rose to prominence as the first runner-up in the 2006 Lux-Channel i Superstar competition. She later established herself in both television and film, making her big-screen debut with Daruchini Dip. Her subsequent performances in productions such as Jago, Priter Agun Jole Digun, and Ei To Prem solidified her place in the hearts of audiences nationwide.
Bindu’s candid revelation about her personal life has elicited a mixture of curiosity and empathy from fans and peers alike. By sharing her journey, she has emphasised her determination to move forward while handling her private life with dignity and respect.
