In a shocking act of violence, 40-year-old Akhtar Hossain, son of Chand Ali Molla, was brutally assaulted on Monday morning in Khulna’s Gallamari area, resulting in severe injuries to both of his arms. Akhtar, who works at a local hotel, was immediately admitted to the Orthopaedics Department of Khulna Medical College Hospital following the attack.
According to police reports and the victim’s account, the incident occurred in the Darogar Vita locality of Batiaghata. Akhtar’s nephew, Shahed, accompanied by four to five acquaintances, lured him to a remote area. Upon arrival, four of the assailants allegedly kicked him to the ground before using a sharp weapon to sever the veins in both of his arms.
Recalling the horrifying experience, Akhtar Hossain said, “I was attacked before I could even comprehend what was happening. When nearby residents heard my screams and rushed over, the attackers fled the scene.”
Dr Bappa Raj, an orthopaedic specialist at Khulna Medical College Hospital, confirmed the severity of the injuries: “The victim sustained critical lacerations to both his right and left arms. The left arm, in particular, is in a precarious condition. We have advised that he be transferred to a specialised hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment.”
The Officer-in-Charge of Batiaghata Police Station, Khondakar Hafizur Rahman, confirmed the attack and stated, “The perpetrators are known to the victim. The investigation is underway to determine the motive and apprehend those responsible.”
