Those who welcomed Tarique Rahman at the Gulshan office

Two days after returning to Bangladesh following a 17-year period of exile, Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), commenced his official duties in Dhaka, meeting with senior members of the party’s Standing Committee.

On Sunday, 28 December, at precisely 1:42 pm, Tarique Rahman arrived at the BNP chairman’s office in Gulshan. Upon his arrival, he was greeted with floral tributes by several senior party leaders, including Mirza Abbas, Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Selima Rahman.

Also present during the reception were Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary-general of BNP; Mawdud Hossain Alomgir Pavel, convener of the media cell; Mahadi Amin, advisor to the acting chairman; officers of the chairman’s office; and prominent leaders from Bogura district.

After exchanging greetings with all attendees, Tarique Rahman proceeded to the second floor of the office and settled into his designated chamber.

In preparation for his official duties, the BNP has arranged a separate chamber for the acting chairman at the central office in Naya Paltan. For reference, the central office also houses separate chambers for Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

In addition to the Gulshan office, the party has secured another residence, which will serve as the operational hub for all activities related to the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. This strategic arrangement allows the party leadership to coordinate election-related programmes efficiently.
