A violent incursion at a prominent private clinic in the Begumganj Upazila of Noakhali has left the local community in a state of shock and the medical fraternity demanding urgent protection. On Monday evening, at the peak of visiting hours, the Rabeya Private Hospital in Choumuhani was besieged by a coordinated mob of dozens of men. The attackers, wielding blunt weapons, caused such intense distress that patients—many in the middle of receiving vital treatment—were forced to scramble for any available exit to avoid the escalating violence.
The ferocity of the assault was matched only by its unfortunate timing. As the mob rampaged through the corridors, the hospital’s chairman, Dr Abu Naser, was actively engaged in a surgical procedure, leaving him unable to intervene as the facility he spent thirty years building was systematically dismantled. The ground floor bore the brunt of the aggression; expensive diagnostic machinery, vital for the region’s healthcare, was smashed to pieces, while furniture and administrative computers were utterly destroyed. Beyond the vandalism, the hospital authorities have formally alleged that the rioters looted the cash till, making off with a significant sum of money amidst the chaos.
Dr Naser has since voiced his profound confusion regarding the motive behind the attack, noting that the hospital has a pristine reputation for patient care and has never been embroiled in the types of medical disputes that occasionally trigger local unrest. The structural and equipment losses are currently valued at over 5 million BDT, a figure that does not account for the long-term psychological impact on the staff and the broader community.

Local law enforcement, led by Inspector Md. Habibur Rahman of the Begumganj Police Station, arrived on the scene shortly after the mob dispersed. While no immediate arrests were made, the police have confirmed that the incident is being treated with the utmost gravity. A formal case has been registered naming eight specific individuals, alongside several unidentified accomplices. With clear CCTV footage now in the hands of the authorities, an intensive manhunt is underway to bring the perpetrators of this brazen attack on a sanctuary of healing to justice.
