Authorities in Chirirbandar Upazila, Dinajpur, recovered the partially decomposed bodies of two unidentified young men from the Atrai River on Tuesday. The bodies were found near Lakshmitola Bridge in Dolla Baniakhari village, under the jurisdiction of Bhiyail Union, at approximately 11 a.m.
According to police and local residents, the discovery was made around 10:30 a.m. by a group of fishermen who noticed two bodies floating in the river. One of the witnesses, Anarul Islam, immediately reported the incident to Chirirbandar Police Station. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and retrieved the bodies from the water.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the deceased were approximately 24 and 30 years old. Both were dressed in patterned trousers, black shirts, and black jackets. The bodies were found in a partially decomposed state, making identification challenging at this stage.
Sub-Inspector S.M. Ahsan Habib of Chirirbandar Police Station confirmed the recovery, stating, “The two bodies have been retrieved from the river. Their condition is partially decomposed. Identification is currently underway. CID officers have been notified and will handle the next legal procedures.”
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of death, but the condition of the bodies has raised concerns about potential foul play or accidental drowning. Local police have intensified patrols along the riverbank while the investigation continues.
