Nationwide Winter Advisory Issued Across Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a winter weather advisory for the next 24 hours, warning of mild temperature fluctuations and intermittent fog in various regions. According to the department, overall temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged, although moderate fog may develop in some areas, potentially reducing visibility on certain roads.

In its 6:00 am update on Wednesday, the BMD indicated that skies over the country would be partly cloudy at times but generally dry. Fog is expected to form from late night until morning in select areas, particularly in low-lying regions and northern districts, which could pose visibility challenges for motorists and pedestrians. Daytime and nighttime temperatures are predicted to remain consistent with current levels, showing only minor variations.

Meteorologists attribute the prevailing weather patterns to the influence of a continental high-pressure system currently positioned over West Bengal and adjacent areas, which is stabilising local conditions. Concurrently, a seasonal low-pressure system over the southern Bay of Bengal is extending northward, creating conditions conducive to the occasional formation of fog. These large-scale pressure systems are maintaining temperature stability while occasionally encouraging fog formation in vulnerable areas.

According to morning readings at 6:00 am, the lowest temperature was recorded in Badalgachi, Naogaon, at 10°C. Northern districts are experiencing comparatively cooler conditions, whereas southern and coastal regions are slightly warmer. Residents are advised to take precautions against the cold, especially during early morning and late evening hours, when temperatures may feel significantly lower despite mild daytime warmth.
