The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued an urgent weather advisory warning of severe squalls, lightning, and thundery showers across fifteen regions of the country. According to the meteorological agency, inland river ports in the designated areas have been instructed to hoist Local Cautionary Signal Number One to mitigate potential maritime hazards. The safety directive advises all riverine vessels and commercial boats navigating these internal waterways to operate with extreme vigilance.
The official alert was broadcast by senior BMD meteorologist Mohammad Abdul Hamid Mia. The fast-moving weather system is projected to generate adverse conditions stemming from the east and south-east directions, creating volatile localized environments.
Meteorologists estimate that the affected districts will experience brief periods of tempestuous weather, with wind speeds fluctuating between 45 and 60 kilometres per hour. These gale-force gusts are expected to accompany widespread precipitation, ranging from sudden downpours to intense electrical storms.
The primary regions placed under the weather warning encompass a vast geographical cross-section of Bangladesh, extending from the northern borders to the southern coastal belts. The administration has explicitly named fifteen territories susceptible to the incoming storm systems, which have been categorised into their respective broader administrative sectors:
| Division Category | Vulnerable Regions & Inland Districts Covered | Max Forecast Wind Speed | Port Signal Level |
| Northern & North-Western | Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Bogra | 60 km/h | Signal No. 1 |
| Central & Dhaka Zone | Tangail, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur | 60 km/h | Signal No. 1 |
| Eastern & North-Eastern | Mymensingh, Comilla, Sylhet | 60 km/h | Signal No. 1 |
| Southern & Coastal Belt | Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cox’s Bazar | 60 km/h | Signal No. 1 |
In a broader climatological bulletin released earlier in the morning, the weather office detailed its projections for the subsequent twenty-four hours across the entire country. Large-scale atmospheric instability is anticipated to trigger light to moderate rain and thundery showers, characterized by erratic gusts and frequent lightning strikes.
These environmental conditions are forecast to manifest across extensive portions of the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions, whilst more isolated, scattered showers will impact parts of the Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Khulna divisions.
Furthermore, the BMD noted that certain localized pockets within these jurisdictions could experience moderately heavy to heavy rainfall. In terms of temperature variations, daytime temperatures across Bangladesh are expected to remain relatively unchanged, whereas nocturnal temperatures may experience a marginal decrease as the rain fronts move across the delta.
