Dhaka, 26 January 2026: A tragic incident occurred at Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital on Sunday evening when 20-year-old patient Nazmin Akter reportedly jumped from the eighth floor of the hospital’s new building, resulting in her death. The incident took place around 7:45–8:00 pm. Nazmin, a resident of Galachipa Upazila in Patuakhali and the mother of a four-month-old daughter, had been receiving treatment at DMCH for several complex health conditions.
According to family members and hospital sources, Nazmin had been suffering from kidney-related complications alongside other serious medical issues. She was admitted to the hospital approximately one week prior for treatment. Doctors had described her condition as somewhat stable; however, they also acknowledged that both her physical and mental state could have deteriorated, making her vulnerable to such a tragic outcome.
Incident Details:
After handing over the care of her infant daughter to another person, Nazmin reportedly went to the bathroom area on the eighth floor. It is understood that she subsequently accessed a vacant space adjacent to the bathroom and jumped to the ground below. Security personnel, both hospital staff and local responders, arrived promptly and recovered her body.
The hospital administration stated that adequate security measures were in place. However, they noted that extreme physical weakness and psychological distress might have contributed to the unfortunate event. A full investigative committee has been formed to determine the precise circumstances surrounding her death.
