Chittagong, 30 January 2026 — A tragic road accident in Patiya, Chittagong, claimed the life of a naval personnel this morning when a passenger bus collided with a motorcycle. Another naval member was injured in the incident.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on the Chittagong–Cox’s Bazar highway near the Gazi’s Bari area on the Patiya Bypass. According to local authorities, the deceased, Nazmus Sakib, 38, died instantly when the motorcycle he was riding was struck from behind by the bus. The injured, identified as Ikram Hossain, 29, was rushed to Patiya Upazila Health Complex, where he received initial medical treatment.
Both individuals were confirmed to be serving members of the Bangladesh Navy.
Patiya Crossing Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Harunur Rashid, confirmed the accident, stating that the two naval personnel had set out on a routine motorcycle ride. “A passenger bus heading towards Cox’s Bazar collided with their motorcycle from the rear. Unfortunately, Nazmus Sakib was crushed under the bus and succumbed at the scene, while Ikram Hossain sustained injuries,” the OC explained.
Further investigation revealed that the bus driver fled immediately after the accident, leaving the vehicle abandoned. The body of the deceased remained at the scene for recovery. Upon receiving the news, a team from the Bangladesh Navy arrived to handle the situation and provide assistance to the injured personnel.
Police have launched an inquiry into the incident and are searching for the fleeing driver. The authorities have urged witnesses to come forward to aid in the investigation. Road safety officials highlighted that this stretch of the highway is prone to accidents, citing frequent cases of overspeeding and reckless driving.
