Ankhi Alamgir, Arfin Rumey to Rock Boishakhi Fest In Japan

The much-anticipated Bengali New Year celebration, “Baishakhi Mela 2026,” is set to return to Japan with renewed vibrancy, bringing the spirit of Bangla culture to the heart of the Bangladeshi diaspora. The event will be held on Sunday, 12 April, at the picturesque Litpia Park in Misato City, located in Saitama Prefecture.

Organised by the Baishakhi Mela Japan Management Committee, the festival is expected to transform the park into a lively cultural hub, uniting expatriate Bangladeshis and admirers of Bengali heritage. Organisers have emphasised that the event is designed not only as a celebration but also as a communal gathering to strengthen cultural identity and foster social harmony among the diaspora community.

A major highlight of this year’s programme will be the performances of renowned Bangladeshi vocalists Ankhi Alamgir and Arfin Rumey, who are expected to draw large crowds with their popular musical repertoires. Their presence has significantly heightened anticipation among expatriates, many of whom look forward to experiencing live Bengali music far from home.

The musical ensemble accompanying the performances will include seasoned instrumentalists Bappi, Rana, Ujjal, and Mehdi, who will collectively ensure a rich and engaging live soundscape throughout the event. The organisers have stated that the stage programme will blend contemporary Bangla music with traditional festive rhythms, reflecting the diverse cultural fabric of Bangladesh.

Beyond entertainment, the festival aims to introduce younger generations born or raised abroad to Bengali traditions, language, and cultural expressions. Cultural stalls, traditional food displays, and community networking spaces will also form part of the fair, offering visitors a comprehensive cultural experience.

The organisers hope that “Baishakhi Mela 2026” will serve as a symbolic bridge between heritage and modern diaspora life, allowing Bangladeshis in Japan to reconnect with their roots while celebrating togetherness in a foreign land.
