To commemorate the 165th birth anniversary of the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the accomplished vocalist Maksura Antora has graced the music world with her debut solo album, ‘Dile Amare Jagaye’ (You Have Awakened Me). The album was officially premiered yesterday at 9:00 AM on the Bengal Foundation’s YouTube channel, marking a significant milestone in the artist’s professional journey.

The album features a curated selection of eight songs, representing the diverse thematic “parjas” or categories of Rabindra Sangeet. While Antora’s vocals provide the emotional heartbeat of the project, the musical landscape was crafted by the talented Amlan Haldar.

The production is a testament to the shared cultural heritage of the subcontinent, involving a cadre of virtuoso instrumentalists from both Dhaka and Kolkata. The evocative sounds of the sitar, sarod, flute, violin, and tabla weave together to complement the timeless lyrics and melodies penned by Tagore himself.

Maksura Antora is no stranger to the rigours of classical training. Her musical odyssey began at age seven at the ‘Suchana Sangeet Vidyaniketan’ in Manikganj, where she immersed herself in Hindustani classical music and the works of the “Rebel Poet” Kazi Nazrul Islam alongside Tagore. She later achieved academic excellence at Chhayanaut Shangheet Bidyayatan, the bastion of Bengali cultural education.

Today, Antora balances a multifaceted career. She is an Assistant Teacher at the Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College and an instructor at Chhayanaut. Her status as a listed artist for Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar further cements her reputation as a guardian of the region’s musical legacy.
