Armed Gang Attacks Bangladesh Land Official And Villagers

An armed gang of robbers has launched a violent assault in the Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj district, leaving six individuals injured, including Sakib Hasan Khan, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Muradnagar upazila in Comilla district. During the same night, the criminal gang targeted a neighbouring residential property, reportedly looting a substantial amount of cash and gold ornaments. The coordinated incidents transpired on Friday night, 19 June 2026, at approximately 1:00 am within the Dhondi and Rainadi-Atadi localities under the jurisdiction of the Haijadi union.

Assault Outside Residential Premises During Power Outage

According to verified reports from local residents and law enforcement authorities, Sakib Hasan Khan, a permanent resident of Dhondi village within Araihazar who currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner (Land) in Muradnagar, Comilla, had returned to his paternal village on official leave. On the night of the incident, a localised power outage left the area without electricity, prompting the government official to sit outdoors by the roadside alongside several of his friends to escape the indoor heat.

During this time, an armed gang consisting of ten to twelve masked robbers abruptly ambushed the group. The assailants wielded sharp, lethal weapons and inflicted severe injuries upon Sakib Hasan Khan and five other individuals. The other wounded persons have been formally identified by the authorities as:

  • Mukul, aged 38

  • Rajib, aged 32

  • Rubel, aged 36

  • Faruk, aged 32

  • Dalia, aged 33, who is the wife of Mukul

When the victims raised distress cries, local villagers and adjacent residents rushed to the scene to intervene. Faced with a gathering crowd of determined locals, the armed gang retreated and fled from the immediate area.

Emergency Medical Attention and Secondary Residential Raid

The injured individuals were rescued from the roadside and immediately transported to the Araihazar Upazila Health Complex. Following the administration of preliminary medical care and stabilising treatment, the attending physicians referred the victims to specialised facilities in Dhaka for advanced clinical management.

Administrative Review and Ongoing Police Investigations

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Araihazar Police Station, Md. Sabzel Hossain, confirmed that police units were deployed to inspect both crime scenes immediately after receiving the emergency notifications. The OC validated that while the Assistant Commissioner and his companions sustained serious physical injuries, the robbers failed to expropriate any personal effects or valuables from them during the initial attack. The police administration stated that a formal criminal case will be registered, and strict legal actions executed, immediately upon receiving a written complaint from the victims.

Providing an administrative update on the condition of the injured official, the Araihazar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Asadur Rahman, explained that the fleeing robbers aggressively attacked anyone present in their escape path. The UNO noted that Assistant Commissioner Sakib Hasan Khan sustained a direct wound to his chest. Following specialised medical treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, his condition stabilised, and he has since returned home to recuperate. Dedicated police intelligence teams are conducting operational drives to track down, identify, and apprehend all individuals involved in the dual crimes.
