Assistant teachers of government secondary schools have temporarily suspended their ongoing work stoppage and will resume duties for the annual examinations from today. BASMASHIS announced the decision in a statement issued on Tuesday (2 December) night.
According to the statement, the work abstention has been withdrawn for the time being, prioritising students’ interest and ensuring that their educational activities do not face disruption. Considering the importance of annual examinations, teachers have agreed to return to duty.
Therefore, from Wednesday (3 December), annual examinations will proceed normally in all government secondary schools.
The statement added that uncertainty regarding the exams had caused stress among students and parents. Teachers, driven by a sense of responsibility, are returning to their academic duties. At the same time, authorities have been urged to promptly address and resolve the four demands.
The association thanked the teachers who participated in the movement and said further programmes would be announced after discussion.
It is known that assistant teachers of more than seven hundred government secondary schools began a continuous strike on Monday (1 December) with four demands, resulting in the suspension of annual examinations for two days.
The four demands of the secondary teachers are:
Inclusion of the assistant teacher post in the BCS (General Education) cadre and publication of the Secondary Education Directorate gazette.
Quick implementation of recruitment, promotion and placement in vacant posts under the school and inspection branches.
Approval of pending time scale and selection grade as per the Supreme Court verdict.
Restoration of pre-2015 benefits including increments and advance salary facilities, along with publication of the gazette.
