Relief has finally returned to account holders across Bangladesh as digital financial operations resume following a period of unexpected disruption. Automated teller machine (ATM) withdrawals, point-of-sale (POS) terminal transactions, and card-based payment processing have been fully restored across approximately 30 commercial banks under the Q-Cash network. The swift restoration occurred on Tuesday night, 6 October, following direct intervention from Bangladesh Bank, the country’s central monetary authority.
IT Consultants PLC (ITC), the tech firm operating and managing the Q-Cash payment switch network, confirmed the complete normalization of services through an official announcement. The technical glitches that halted the system have been successfully resolved, allowing bank clients to draw cash, make retail purchases, and process electronic fund transfers without impediment.
The disruption began on the evening of Sunday, 4 October, when digital services abruptly went offline without prior public notice. ITC attributed the sudden blackout to a scheduled system migration intended to upgrade and modernize the core payment infrastructure. However, the lack of advance warning created immediate hardship for thousands of account holders, many of whom found themselves unable to settle emergency medical bills, purchase daily essentials, or access funds over the weekend.
As public anxiety grew, member banks began dispatching text messages to customers warning that services might remain suspended until midday on 10 October while migration work continued. The prospect of a nearly six-day interruption to fundamental electronic banking triggered widespread concern across the business community and broader public alike.
Recognizing the severity of the situation and its impact on financial stability, Bangladesh Bank stepped in to expedite a solution. The central bank deployed a specialized technical oversight team and issued firm directives to ITC, demanding immediate remedial action to restore network connectivity. Driven by this regulatory oversight, technical engineers worked round the clock to finalize the system integration ahead of schedule. As a result, full functionality was re-established late Tuesday evening, completing the recovery in just two days rather than the initially projected six.
With digital payments playing an increasingly central role in Bangladesh’s modern financial ecosystem, the outage highlighted vulnerabilities within retail payment networks. Banking analysts emphasized that future system upgrades must incorporate robust redundancy protocols—such as secondary backup servers—to execute infrastructure maintenance without severing access for end consumers. Furthermore, financial institutions have been urged to establish clearer communication channels to notify the public well in advance of planned technical maintenance.
All Q-Cash integrated services are operating normally, enabling cardholders across the nation to complete electronic transactions without disruption.
