Bangladesh ODI Squad Unchanged for NZ Series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the first two One Day Internationals of the upcoming home series against New Zealand, retaining the same group that featured in the previous series against Pakistan. Bangladesh won that three-match ODI series 2–1 on home soil.

As part of their international commitments, five Bangladeshi players currently participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have been instructed to return mid-tournament for national duty. The players are Tanzid Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana, Rishad Hossain, and Shoriful Islam. Their No Objection Certificates (NOCs) were valid until 12 April.

In contrast, Parvez Hossain, who is also involved in the PSL, has not been included in the ODI squad. Although his NOC remains valid until 25 April, he has not been selected for the series.

This is the first instance of the four-member selection panel led by Habibul Bashar announcing a squad for an international series. However, the panel has opted to continue with the same squad previously selected by the former selection committee, headed by Gazi Ashraf Hossain, for the Pakistan series.

Explaining the decision, chief selector Habibul Bashar stated that Bangladesh had performed well in the most recent series. He noted that some players had not been part of the playing XI, while several newcomers had recently been introduced to the squad. He further emphasised the panel’s approach of maintaining continuity and ensuring adequate opportunities for players already selected, adding that those who featured in the previous series had not performed poorly.

The T20I series will follow immediately thereafter, with the first two matches scheduled in Chattogram on 27 and 29 April. The final T20 International will be played in Dhaka on 2 May, concluding New Zealand’s tour of Bangladesh.
