The government of Bangladesh has implemented a fresh round of upward price adjustments for retail fuel commodities, effective from Monday, 1 June 2026. Under the new pricing directive issued for the calendar month of June, the retail procurement rates for octane, petrol, and kerosene have each been raised by Tk 5 per litre. Conversely, the retail price of diesel—the country’s most heavily consumed fuel—has been kept completely unchanged.
Institutional Notification and Automatic Pricing Framework
The revised market rates were formally detailed in an official gazette notification issued on Sunday evening, 31 May 2026, by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. According to the state authority, the decision to restructure domestic consumer rates was made to maintain strict alignment with recent price fluctuations and asset movements across the international petroleum market.
The monthly price adjustments are executed systematically under the state’s automated fuel pricing mechanism, a structural system designed to balance domestic retail rates against global import costs, processing fees, variable customs duties, and prevailing foreign currency exchange rates. While the government had elected to hold consumer fuel prices completely flat throughout the month of May, international market pressures necessitated an upward recalibration for the June trading period.
Comparative Fuel Tariffs and Historical Context
With the new tariff structure now legally in force, octane retains its status as the most expensive consumer fuel commodity in the domestic market, commanding a Tk 5 premium over petrol and a Tk 30 variance over diesel.
This latest fiscal adjustment follows a highly significant round of price revisions enacted by the government earlier in the year on 18 April. During that previous restructuring phase, domestic fuel prices experienced steep increases across all major categories to compensate for mounting structural supply costs. At that time, diesel was adjusted from Tk 100 to Tk 115 per litre, octane climbed from Tk 120 to Tk 140 per litre, petrol ascended from Tk 116 to Tk 135 per litre, and kerosene moved from Tk 112 to Tk 130 per litre.

| Fuel Commodity Category | Previous Rate (Prior to 18 April) | Adjusted Rate (Enacted 18 April) | Final Retail Price (Effective 1 June 2026) | Net Month-on-Month Increase |
| Octane | Tk 120.00 | Tk 140.00 | Tk 145.00 | +Tk 5.00 |
| Petrol | Tk 116.00 | Tk 135.00 | Tk 140.00 | +Tk 5.00 |

| Diesel | Tk 100.00 | Tk 115.00 | Tk 115.00 | Unchanged |
The state’s energy regulatory documentation further clarified that the final retail consumer caps listed above are calculated after factoring in standard value-added tax (VAT), outstanding import tariffs, operational marketing margins for national oil companies, regional distribution and transport overheads, and standard commissions paid to retail fuel station dealers.
