Barishal Fish Trader Murder Case

A fish trader has been killed in Barishal city in an incident allegedly involving members of a local teenage gang, according to police and family accounts.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday (15 May) at the Palashpur Three-Road Intersection in Ward No. 5 of the city. The victim, Babu Shikdar (30), was the son of Kalam Shikdar and a resident of the same area. He was also the father of two children.

According to information provided, the killing is linked to a dispute over extortion demands. It is alleged that Babur Shikdar was targeted after he refused to pay money demanded by a group identified locally as a teenage gang. The gang is reportedly associated with an individual known as Madhu, also referred to as “Tokai Madhu”, who is described as its controller.

The victim’s brother, Naeem Hossain, stated that the accused had been demanding extortion money from his brother for a prolonged period. He further said that shortly before dawn prayers on Friday, a group led by Tokai Madhu carried out a sudden attack at the location. He also named several individuals alleged to have participated in the assault.

During the incident, two individuals identified as Shahid, also known as “Kala Shahid”, and Motu Siam were detained by local residents and later handed over to Kawnia Police Station.

After the attack, locals rescued Babu Shikdar and took him to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police from Kawnia Police Station under Barishal Metropolitan Police confirmed that the incident involved an attack by a teenage gang. Officer-in-Charge Sanjit Chandra Nath stated that the case is also being examined from the perspective of possible narcotics-related links.

Authorities confirmed that two individuals have been detained so far, while operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. The body of the deceased has been kept at the morgue of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police also stated that preparations are underway to file a case in connection with the incident, and further legal procedures will follow accordingly.
