The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified security measures along the Habiganj border amid a reported rise in “push-in” attempts through various international border points. The 55 BGB Battalion has strengthened 24-hour patrols and intelligence surveillance across approximately 103 kilometres of border areas in the district.
According to BGB officials, additional preventive measures have been introduced, including loudspeaker announcements (miking) and community courtyard meetings (uthan boithok) in border-adjacent villages. These initiatives aim to raise awareness among residents regarding push-in risks, identification of suspicious movements, and the prompt reporting of such activities to the authorities.
As of Sunday, no incidents of illegal intrusion have been reported through the Habiganj border, BGB confirmed.
On Saturday night, the battalion conducted warning announcements in several border areas as part of its awareness campaign. The outreach programme also involves coordination with local residents, village police, and members of the Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), who are engaged in community-level vigilance activities.
Local residents have expressed satisfaction with the increased security presence. In the border village of Gubbil in Chunarughat upazila, van driver Md Monju Mia stated that the night-time announcements have helped increase public awareness, while regular patrols by BGB have contributed to a sense of security in the area.
In Teliyapara of Madhabpur upazila, tea garden worker Mohon Lal said that the courtyard meetings helped residents better understand the nature of push-in incidents and improved community awareness regarding identifying suspicious individuals and reporting them to BGB.
The BGB has stated that awareness programmes, patrol operations, and public engagement activities will continue in the border regions. Authorities are working in coordination with local communities to ensure continuous monitoring and immediate response to any suspicious activities.
