In the lead-up to the 13th parliamentary elections, the Rajbari-1 constituency has witnessed a surge in political activity, with voters expressing growing anticipation. On Monday afternoon, Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nominee for Rajbari-1, addressed a large roadside rally at Shahid Khushi Railway Field, urging residents to cast their votes for the “Dhaner Sheesh” symbol on 12 February 2026.
During his address, Khaiyam asserted, “People are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to vote. Should the BNP form the next government, Rajbari will witness the construction of a second Padma Bridge and the Padma Barrage. These projects will transform the lives and prospects of local communities.”
Prior to the rally, colourful processions from the 14 unions of the Sadar Upazila and various areas of Rajbari municipality converged at Shahid Khushi Railway Field. Both party activists and ordinary citizens participated enthusiastically, reflecting a heightened public interest in the upcoming election.
Khaiyam also criticised the political opposition, alleging, “Certain groups are attempting to undermine the electoral environment. They have already begun distributing cash among voters, anticipating their own defeat.” Emphasising his integrity and commitment to public service, he added, “I am one of you. I have never been involved in wrongdoing. Though one day we will all depart from this world, I believe the people of this district will remember my efforts. It is this faith that drives my lifelong dedication to public welfare.”
Following his speech, the rally evolved into a large electoral procession, commencing at Shahid Khushi Railway Field, winding through the city’s main thoroughfares, and returning to the starting point. Notable attendees included former Rajbari District BNP convener Naeem Ansari, former district secretary Manjurul Alam Dulal, and joint convener Gazi Ahsan Habib, alongside hundreds of BNP and its affiliated organisation members.
