Bridge Collision Claims Motorcyclist’s Life

A fatal road traffic collision on the Kachua–Hajiganj–Gauripur regional highway in Chandpur has left one motorcyclist dead and another seriously injured.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 2:00 pm near the bridge area in Dumuria. The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Ibrahim Hossain Sagor, a resident of Shashongacha in Cumilla’s Kotwali area. He was employed as a supervisor on a passenger transport vehicle and frequently travelled by road in connection with his work. The injured passenger, 29-year-old Shahadat Hossain, son of Mizanur Rahman from Koraish village in Kachua upazila, is currently receiving treatment at Kachua Upazila Health Complex in critical condition.

According to eyewitness accounts and local sources, a microbus and a pickup van were travelling at high speed from the Hajiganj direction towards Kachua. The two vehicles were reportedly attempting to overtake each other on the narrow stretch of road near the bridge. At the same time, a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction entered the same section of roadway, resulting in a violent head-on collision.

The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the motorcycle completely mangled and causing the instant death of the rider, Ibrahim Hossain Sagor, at the scene. Locals rushed to the area shortly after the incident and rescued the injured Shahadat Hossain, who was subsequently taken to the upazila health facility for emergency treatment.

The accident caused temporary disruption to traffic movement in the area as the motorcycle and other vehicles involved obstructed the roadway. Normal traffic flow was later restored following police intervention.

Officers from Kachua Police Station arrived promptly at the scene, brought the situation under control, and seized both the microbus and pickup van involved in the incident. The body of the deceased was recovered and transported to the police station for necessary legal procedures. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collision and to take appropriate legal action against those responsible.

Local residents have expressed concern over the frequency of accidents on this stretch of road. They noted that the bridge area is particularly hazardous due to its narrow width and heavy vehicular movement. Reckless driving and dangerous overtaking manoeuvres are reportedly common, especially during peak traffic hours, increasing the risk of serious accidents.

The community has called for stricter traffic enforcement, improved monitoring, and enhanced road safety measures to prevent further tragedies on this busy regional route.
