Brother Kills Sibling in Italy

A deeply disturbing case of intra-family violence has emerged involving two Bangladeshi brothers residing in Italy, where a long-standing domestic dispute culminated in a fatal stabbing, followed by a shocking video call to relatives in Bangladesh showing the aftermath.

The incident took place in the southern Italian city of Lecce, where both brothers—Humayun Fakir, the elder, and Nayon Fakir, the younger—originally hail from the Sonarang area of Tongibari upazila in Munshiganj district. Both were reportedly living in Italy as expatriate workers.

According to family sources, tensions between the two brothers had been simmering for some time over unresolved family matters. On Wednesday evening, at approximately 8 p.m. local time, the dispute escalated dramatically while they were in Lecce. What began as a verbal argument quickly turned violent.

In a sudden outburst of aggression, Humayun Fakir allegedly attacked his younger brother with a sharp-edged weapon, inflicting multiple wounds. Nayon Fakir sustained critical injuries and died at the scene before any emergency assistance could be provided.

What followed the killing has left the family and community in profound shock. Shortly after the incident, the accused reportedly contacted family members in Bangladesh via video call. During the call, he displayed the lifeless and bloodied body of his brother and openly confessed to committing the act. The gruesome visual confirmation of the tragedy caused immediate distress among relatives, who broke down in tears upon witnessing the scene.

News of the incident rapidly spread within the local community in Bangladesh, triggering widespread shock and grief among neighbours and acquaintances of the family.

Italian law enforcement authorities were alerted soon after and launched an immediate operation. Police in Lecce subsequently arrested Humayun Fakir at the scene or shortly thereafter. He is currently in custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
