The local authorities in Dhaka have launched a formal investigation following the discovery of a deceased businessman in the Bangshal area of the capital. The victim, identified as Nisar Ali, aged 50, was discovered on Tuesday afternoon, 12 May 2026, inside a residence located on Bagdasa Lane in Nayabazar. Upon entering the premises, police officers found the victim’s body on a bed with his limbs and mouth securely bound, suggesting a violent conclusion to the incident.
Nisar Ali originally hailed from Shyamlagachi village in the Sharsha Upazila of Jhalakathi district. He was the son of the late Hazrat Ali Munshi. According to police records, the deceased had been residing alone in the Nayabazar flat for approximately three months, having rented the accommodation to facilitate his professional activities. He operated a textile business in the prominent commercial hub of Islampur.
Discovery of the Body and Police Intervention
The grim discovery was made by the property owner, Mohammad Hossain Babu, at approximately 1:00 PM on Tuesday. The landlord observed that the lights inside the businessman’s second-floor room were still illuminated during the day. After repeated attempts to call out to Nisar Ali yielded no response, the landlord alerted several neighbours before contacting the National Emergency Service via the 999 helpline.
Responding to the emergency call, a team from Bangshal Police Station arrived at the five-storey building. Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Wahab, who led the initial intervention, reported that the officers were forced to break the door to gain access to the flat. Inside the second-floor room, they discovered Nisar Ali lying on his back on a bed.
The crime scene revealed that the victim’s hands and feet had been bound with a gamcha (a traditional thin cotton towel), while his mouth was tightly gagged using a window curtain. The physical state of the body and the nature of the restraints provided immediate indicators of foul play to the responding officers.
Investigative Findings and Forensic Analysis
Based on a preliminary assessment of the scene and the condition of the remains, Sub-Inspector Abdul Wahab suggested a tentative timeline for the incident. It is suspected that the homicide occurred at some point between 11:00 PM on Monday night and 1:00 PM on Tuesday afternoon. The police believe that unidentified individuals entered the residence, restrained the businessman, and subsequently murdered him by strangulation before fleeing the scene.
To ensure a comprehensive forensic examination, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Crime Scene Unit was summoned to the location. The specialised unit collected various pieces of physical evidence, including biological samples and the materials used to bind the victim, to aid in the identification of the perpetrators.
Procedural Steps and Legal Status
Following the completion of the on-site investigation by the forensic teams, the body was removed and transported to a hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The autopsy results are expected to provide definitive information regarding the exact cause and time of death, which will be critical for the progression of the legal case.
The Bangshal Police have confirmed that the investigation is currently in its primary stages. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday evening, and the motive behind the killing remains under scrutiny.
