Child Brutally Injured in Alfadanga

A deeply disturbing incident in Alfadanga Upazila under Faridpur District has sparked widespread outrage after a ten-year-old madrasa student was allegedly subjected to violent abuse involving a cattle rope, leaving him seriously injured and currently under medical care.

The victim, identified as Md. Tamim Biswas, a 10-year-old student of the Nazera section at a local madrasa and orphanage, is now receiving treatment after sustaining injuries to his neck, face, and multiple parts of his body.

The incident reportedly took place on Thursday around 5:00 p.m. in the field of the Joint Markazul Quran Madrasa and Orphanage located in the Nawapara Kuchiyagram area. According to local accounts, tensions arose when a cow grazing within the madrasa premises damaged newly planted saplings.

As the child attempted to move and tether the animal away from the plants, an altercation allegedly occurred with a local man, resulting in a shocking act of violence. Eyewitnesses claim that the accused, identified as Kausar Miah (50), tied a cattle rope around the child’s neck and waist before forcing the animal to move rapidly.

The cow reportedly bolted, dragging the child along with it. In the process, the boy was thrown violently against a young tree before falling to the ground. He sustained a deep injury to his neck and multiple abrasions and bruises across his face and body.

The victim’s father, Moshier Rahman, had passed away earlier, and the child had been residing at the madrasa as an orphan while continuing his studies.

Following the incident, a local arbitration meeting (shalish) was reportedly held on Friday morning, where it was decided that the accused would pay a fine of 20,000 taka. However, this decision has been widely criticised by residents, many of whom argue that the punishment is grossly inadequate given the severity of the child’s injuries.

Community members have demanded a full judicial investigation and appropriate legal action, expressing concern that the matter should not be settled informally. They described the incident as inhumane and said the child narrowly escaped a potentially fatal outcome.

Attempts to obtain a statement from the accused were unsuccessful as he could not be reached. Meanwhile, the Officer-in-Charge of Alfadanga Police Station stated that no formal written complaint had yet been filed, but confirmed that the matter is being treated with seriousness and necessary legal steps are under consideration.

Local residents are now preparing for a human chain protest, demanding exemplary punishment for those responsible and justice for the injured child.
