Rampura Daylight Shooting Incident

A prominent listed criminal, identified as Yasin Khan Palash, also known locally as “Kaila Palash”, was the target of a brazen armed attack in a busy area of the capital on Friday afternoon, triggering panic among commuters and raising fresh concerns over public security in Dhaka.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:47 pm near the Rampura Television Centre area under Hatirjheel Police Station jurisdiction. According to police and eyewitness accounts, the victim had just finished attending Friday prayers and was returning home when he stopped on the opposite side of the road near the television centre. At that moment, two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on him without warning.

Witnesses reported that the attackers discharged multiple rounds in quick succession before fleeing the scene at high speed, disappearing through adjacent streets within seconds. The sudden gunfire caused immediate chaos in the area, with pedestrians and motorists scrambling for safety as the busy road briefly came to a standstill.

Local residents and bystanders quickly rushed the injured man to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency department. Medical personnel confirmed that he received urgent treatment upon arrival and remains under close observation. His current condition is being monitored, though further details regarding the severity of his injuries have not been officially disclosed.

Police from Hatirjheel Station confirmed the incident and stated that preliminary findings suggest the attack may have been premeditated. Officers have already begun collecting CCTV footage from nearby establishments and are interviewing witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events. Authorities are also examining possible motives, including past rivalries and criminal enmity.

Law enforcement officials emphasised that no arrests have yet been made, and investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible. Additional patrols and surveillance measures have been intensified in key areas of the capital following the attack.
