Chattogram Company Fined Tk 12 Lakh for Fake Electricals

In a significant crackdown on illegal electrical equipment, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized a large quantity of unauthorised and hazardous electrical items in Chattogram’s Kadamtoli area under Sadarghat Police Station. The operation, conducted on Monday, 15 December, resulted in a fine of Tk 12 lakh imposed on the company responsible.

The RAB-7 operation was conducted as a mobile court raid, with Executive Magistrate Md. Abu Hasan and representatives from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) in attendance.

According to RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media), A.R.M. Mozzaffar Hossain, intelligence reports indicated that a company operating under the name ‘OnePlus’ was illegally manufacturing and distributing unsafe electrical equipment without proper approval in the Kadamtoli area.

“Based on verified information, we discovered that these unauthorised items posed significant safety risks to consumers. Our operation ensured their immediate confiscation,” he said.

During the raid, RAB officials seized a substantial volume of counterfeit and potentially hazardous electrical goods. The company, OnePlus, was subsequently fined Tk 12 lakh for producing and selling unapproved equipment, as confirmed by BSTI authorities.

After the operation, Lt Colonel Hafizur Rahman, commanding officer of RAB-7, briefed reporters on the details, highlighting the coordination between RAB and BSTI officials. BSTI Field Officer Engineer Md. Hafizur Rahman and other officials were present to supervise the legality and documentation of the operation.

RAB also stated that further legal proceedings are underway against the company to ensure accountability and prevent the sale of hazardous electrical products in the market.

This operation reflects RAB’s ongoing commitment to consumer safety, cracking down on unscrupulous businesses that compromise public security by producing unsafe electrical appliances. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious or unauthorised electrical products to relevant law enforcement agencies.
