The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) conducted a large-scale special operation across the capital on Friday, 15 May, resulting in the arrest of 129 individuals allegedly involved in a range of criminal activities. The coordinated drive covered multiple police division areas and was carried out simultaneously in different parts of the city.
According to an official press release issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the operation targeted suspects linked to ongoing investigations, outstanding warrants, and various other offences disrupting public order. Authorities stated that the initiative forms part of their continued efforts to strengthen law enforcement and maintain stability in the capital.
The highest number of arrests was recorded in Tejgaon Division, followed closely by Gulshan, Mirpur Model, and Jatrabari. The distribution of detainees across major police stations is summarised below:
| Police Station / Area | Number of Arrests |
|---|---|
| Tejgaon Model Police Station | 49 |
| Mirpur Model Police Station | 31 |
| Gulshan Police Station | 30 |
| Jatrabari Police Station | 19 |
| Total | 129 |
Within the broader Tejgaon Division, additional arrests were made in several neighbouring jurisdictions. These include 5 individuals from Tejgaon Police Station, 6 from Sherebangla Nagar, 16 from Mohammadpur, 7 from Adabor, 8 from Tejgaon Industrial Area, and 7 from Hatirjheel Police Station.
Further clarification regarding the 19 arrests in Jatrabari reveals a mixed composition of cases:
| Category of Arrest | Number |
|---|---|
| Regular case accused | 3 |
| Named accused in an older case | 1 |
| Individuals with arrest warrants | 4 |
| Detained through mobile court sentencing | 11 |
| Total | 19 |
Officials noted that those detained under mobile courts were penalised for various minor offences under summary legal procedures.
Law enforcement authorities emphasised that the arrested individuals were involved in different types of criminal activities, though specific charges were not detailed in the press briefing. The police further stated that operations of this nature will continue in order to curb crime, ensure public safety, and reinforce law and order across Dhaka.
Senior officials added that intelligence-led policing and coordinated action between different divisions have significantly improved the effectiveness of such operations. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal networks and ensuring that individuals with pending cases or warrants are brought under legal process.
The latest operation reflects an ongoing pattern of intensified policing in the capital, aimed at addressing both organised and petty crimes through sustained enforcement initiatives.
