DSCC Orders Clearance of Illegal Banners and Posters in the Capital

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has issued a directive for the removal of banners, festoons, posters and signboards displayed on walls, public spaces, and private properties across its jurisdiction. The instruction was communicated through a public notice issued on Tuesday, 2 November 2025.

According to the notice, a significant number of banners, festoons, posters, election campaign leaflets, advertisements and signboards have recently been installed across the city without prior approval. Such activities, DSCC emphasised, violate the Control of Wall Writing and Poster Installation Act, 2012, which governs the placement of visual materials in urban areas.

The corporation urged all organisations, institutions and private individuals responsible for these unauthorised displays to remove them voluntarily. The notice warned that failure to comply would result in legal action against the responsible parties, including fines and other enforcement measures, to restore order and cleanliness in the city.

This move follows growing public concern about visual clutter in Dhaka, which has led to calls for stricter enforcement of urban regulations. On 16 November 2025, a news report described Dhaka as a “city of posters and banners”, highlighting the extent of unauthorised installations. In response, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) issued a similar notice two days later, requiring all illegal displays within its area to be removed within seven days. The DSCC’s latest notice addresses the same issue for the southern part of the capital.

City authorities stressed that the initiative is part of a broader effort to maintain a clean and orderly urban environment, ensuring that public spaces remain safe, accessible, and visually uncluttered. Residents and businesses have been reminded to seek proper approvals before installing any promotional or decorative materials in the future.
