Ex-Student Leader Faces Rape Allegations in Narayanganj

A former joint secretary of the Narayanganj Metropolitan unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has been accused in a rape case filed by a woman who is the mother of one child. The complainant alleges that the accused lured her to a house under the pretext of providing legal assistance in a case involving her husband before sexually assaulting her. She further claims that the accused repeatedly raped her after recording the initial assault and threatening to release the footage on social media.

The accused, Mehedi Hasan Farhan, 32, is a former Joint Secretary of the Narayanganj Metropolitan JCD. Originally from Muladi in Barishal district, he previously lived in Jalkuri, Siddhirganj, and now resides in the Khanpur Electricity Colony area under Narayanganj Sadar Police Station. According to the complaint, he is also seeking the presidency of the organisation in its forthcoming committee.

The complainant’s family home is in Uzirpur, Barishal, although she currently lives in the Bhuingar area of Kutubpur Union in Fatullah, Narayanganj.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the alleged incident began on 1 December last year when Farhan reportedly offered to help the woman with legal proceedings relating to a case she had filed against her husband in the Narayanganj court. The complaint states that he took her to a friend’s residence in the Dhakeshwari area of Godnail, Siddhirganj, where he allegedly raped her and secretly recorded the assault using a mobile phone.

The FIR further alleges that Farhan subsequently used the recorded video to blackmail the woman, threatening to publish it on social media unless she complied with his demands. Under that alleged coercion, he is accused of calling her to different locations three or four times every month, where he repeatedly raped her. The complainant claims that after members of her family became aware of the incidents, Farhan attempted to resolve the matter by assuring her that he would marry her.

The complaint also describes another alleged incident that took place on 15 April this year. According to the FIR, Farhan persuaded the woman to attend a meeting in Mohammadbag, under Kadamtali Police Station in the capital, claiming that a settlement had been arranged. She alleges that she was taken to a rented residence belonging to Farhan’s friend, Hridoy Hasan Abhi, where Farhan allegedly handed her over to another man identified as Arman. The complainant claims that she was raped throughout the night.

Following the alleged assault, the woman filed a rape case at Kadamtali Police Station on 17 April 2026 against Mehedi Hasan Farhan and Arman. She has expressed frustration that, despite more than three months having passed since the case was lodged, neither of the accused has been arrested. According to the complainant, the principal accused continues to move about openly.

Farhan has categorically denied all allegations. He claims the case is fabricated and politically motivated. According to his statement, the complainant had previously married her husband through deception and later filed assault and abuse cases in an attempt to recover the amount specified in the marriage contract. He further alleges that, because he is a contender for the presidency of the upcoming Narayanganj Metropolitan JCD committee, certain members of his own political organisation conspired with the complainant to implicate him in a false rape case for political reasons.

The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Sohel Rana of Kadamtali Police Station, said the investigation remains ongoing. He stated that investigators are currently recording witness statements and gathering evidence. He also confirmed that the complainant’s medical examination report has not yet been received. According to the investigating officer, the case names two accused individuals, but no arrests have been made so far.

The allegations remain under investigation, and no court has yet determined the guilt or innocence of the accused. As with all criminal proceedings, the claims made by both the complainant and the accused will be subject to examination through the judicial process.
