Ex-Traffic Constable Kills, Injures Three

A tragic and violent incident in Lakshmipur town has left one retired traffic constable dead and three others seriously injured after he allegedly attacked members of his household and neighbours with a sharp weapon before jumping from a rooftop.

The incident occurred on Monday morning at a rented residence in the Panchanagar area of Lakshmipur municipality. The deceased has been identified as Nasir Ahmed (55), son of Arshad Ali from the Purba Ekhlaspur village in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district. He had been living with his family in the same rented house for approximately seven years and retired from his position as a traffic constable in August last year.

According to local residents and accounts from relatives of the injured, Nasir Ahmed was at home with his younger son, Imran Ahmed, a college student, while other family members were away at the time of the incident. It is reported that during the night he had complained of feeling unwell, and his son had provided him with medication.

However, in the morning, while his son was asleep, Nasir Ahmed allegedly launched a sudden and unprovoked attack using a sharp weapon, inflicting serious injuries on him. The injured son managed to escape the room, bleeding heavily.

As the situation escalated, a neighbouring tenant, Mizanur Rahman Swapan, rushed to assist but was also attacked and sustained severe injuries. Another individual, also named Nasir, who reportedly attempted to intervene and rescue the victims, was likewise struck and injured.

Eyewitnesses stated that shortly after the attacks, the former constable left the flat in a disoriented state and, appearing partially unclothed, made his way to the rooftop of the building. He subsequently jumped from the roof, sustaining critical injuries in the fall.

All four injured individuals were initially rescued by locals and taken to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. Due to the severity of their conditions, three of them were later transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Nasir Ahmed succumbed to his injuries approximately three hours after admission.

A resident medical officer at Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital confirmed that four injured individuals were brought in, one of whom died during treatment, while the others were referred to the capital as their condition was critical.

Police and hospital authorities have indicated that the incident may be linked to a sudden mental health episode, although investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and circumstances.
