A man has died following an alleged stabbing incident during a family dispute in Cumilla Sadar South, Bangladesh, while his elder brother has been taken into police custody in connection with the case.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Goalgaw village under Purbajorekanan Union of the upazila. The deceased has been identified as Md Foysal (24), a resident of Goalgaw village. He was employed as a carpenter by profession. The accused, his elder brother Morshed (40), has been detained by police following the incident.
According to information provided by local residents and police sources, an altercation broke out between the two brothers at around midday on Thursday over a family dispute. The verbal argument reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation. At one stage, Morshed allegedly attacked Foysal with a sharp knife, striking him in the chest. The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the assault.
Following the incident, local people rescued the injured man and transported him to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical intervention, Foysal died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police subsequently launched an operation after being informed of the incident. Morshed was later arrested from the Suagazi Bazar area of Cumilla Sadar South shortly after the incident.
The Cumilla Sadar South Model Police Station has confirmed that legal procedures are underway in connection with the case. A murder case is in the process of being filed, and the body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue at Cumilla Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination as part of standard investigative procedure.
