Farmer Found Dead in Own Field

A 40-year-old farmer was discovered dead in his own cultivated land in Mirsarai, prompting a police investigation into what authorities suspect may be a violent killing.

The deceased, identified as Chowdhury Mia, was a resident of Thakurdighi village under Durgapur ইউনিয়ন in the upazila. His bloodied body was recovered on Wednesday morning (25 February) from a plot of farmland situated north of Thakurdighi Bazar, adjacent to a local brick kiln.

According to police, villagers noticed the body lying in the field during the early hours and immediately informed the authorities. Officers from Jorarganj Police Station arrived at the scene and secured the area before conducting an initial inquest.

Officer-in-Charge Kazi Nazmul Haque confirmed that the body bore visible signs of injury, suggesting that the death may not have been accidental. “We have recovered the body from agricultural land in the Thakurdighi area. After completing the inquest report, the body has been sent to the morgue of Chattogram Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. An investigation is under way, and further details will be shared once we have more information,” he said.

Preliminary reports indicate that Chowdhury Mia had left home the previous evening, reportedly to tend to his crops or oversee work on his land. When he did not return overnight, family members grew concerned. The grim discovery the following morning has left relatives and neighbours in shock.

Local residents described the victim as a hardworking farmer with no known history of disputes, though police are examining whether land-related conflicts, personal enmity, or robbery could have played a role. The proximity of the field to a brick kiln and a marketplace has also led investigators to consider whether there may have been witnesses or surveillance footage that could assist the inquiry.
