A 50-year-old woman has been arrested in Nikli upazila of Kishoreganj district on charges of drug trafficking, following the recovery of a significant quantity of contraband yaba tablets during a late-night police operation.
The accused, identified as Rowshan Ara Begum, is a resident of Noagaon village under Guroi Union in Nikli. She is the widow of the late Mahbub Ali. Law enforcement officials stated that the arrest was made on Thursday night after acting on a tip-off regarding ongoing drug activities at her residence.
According to police sources, the operation was led by Officer-in-Charge Mahbubur Rahman of Nikli Police Station. He was accompanied by Second Officer Roman Khan, Sub-Inspector Sharifuzzaman, and a team of other officers. Acting on the intelligence input, the team conducted a targeted raid at her home in Noagaon village.
During the search, police recovered 782 yaba tablets, along with cash amounting to BDT 22,050 and a mobile phone believed to have been used in coordinating drug-related transactions. The suspect was arrested on the spot without resistance.
A senior police official confirmed that Rowshan Ara Begum had long been under surveillance due to her alleged involvement in drug dealing activities in the locality. Authorities further stated that she is a “known drug trader” in the area and has previously been arrested in connection with narcotics-related offences. Multiple cases are also pending against her in different police stations.
Police believe that the seized yaba tablets were intended for distribution across local markets, contributing to the wider narcotics network operating within the region. Investigators are now working to trace her associates and identify possible supply chains connected to the seized drugs.
