Renowned Nazrul Sangeet artiste Ferdous Ara is preparing to release a new modern music album, marking her return to the genre after an absence of 31 years. Although she is primarily recognised for her contributions to Nazrul Sangeet, she has also performed modern songs on various occasions throughout her long musical career, with several of those recordings gaining popularity among listeners.
Speaking about her return to modern music, Ferdous Ara recently shared details of the journey that led to the project. She recalled that in 1972 she participated in an audition for Bangladesh Television (BTV) and was enlisted in both the Nazrul Sangeet and modern song categories.
However, she said her father preferred that she focus on Nazrul Sangeet rather than pursue a career centred on modern songs. As a result, she devoted most of her professional life to Nazrul Sangeet, a field in which she established herself as a prominent performer. Despite that focus, she continued to sing modern songs on request for films, television dramas and various BTV programmes.
Ferdous Ara noted that her previous modern music album was released in 1995. Titled Moner Pakhi Kotha Koy, the album was published by HMV, an Indian music production company. Since that release, she had not produced another full-length modern music album.
According to the singer, the idea for a new album emerged about a month ago while she was recording a modern song titled Aha Ki Shundor Ghuri. During the recording process, she felt inspired to revisit the genre and begin work on a fresh collection of songs. That idea subsequently developed into the current album project.
The tentative title of the forthcoming album is Prem (“Love”), although Ferdous Ara indicated that the name could be changed before its official release. The album is planned to contain ten songs in total. Work on five of those tracks has already been completed, while the remaining songs are expected to be finished in the near future.

Ferdous Ara said the lyrics and compositions of the new album have been developed with contemporary listener preferences in mind. The project is intended to combine modern musical themes with content relevant to present-day audiences.
In addition to releasing the songs in audio format, the production team plans to create music videos for every track on the album. These videos are expected to be released individually over time. The complete album will also be made available in audio form for listeners.
The project represents Ferdous Ara’s first full modern music album since 1995 and marks a significant return to a genre that she has performed intermittently throughout her career. While no official release date has yet been announced, work on the remaining tracks is continuing, with the album progressing towards completion.
For audiences familiar with her extensive body of work in Nazrul Sangeet, the forthcoming release will add a new chapter to a career that spans several decades and includes contributions across multiple forms of Bangla music.
