At the tender age of 33, Abdul Malek was a man with the world at his feet. Vibrant, healthy, and professionally accomplished, there was no logical reason for him to dwell on his mortality. Yet, in a hauntingly prophetic gesture, he had updated his Facebook biography with a specific final request: “After my death, please lay my body to rest in my birthplace, St. Martin’s, beside the graves of my parents.”
Tragically, this digital testament became a reality far sooner than anyone could have imagined. On Wednesday afternoon, the promising young entrepreneur and content creator lost his life in a devastating road traffic accident on the Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram Highway.
The Fatal Collision at Banglabazar
The accident occurred at approximately 3:00 pm in the Banglabazar area. Mr Malek was travelling towards Cox’s Bazar town in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw after completing a three-day vocational training course at the BKSP centre in Ramu. According to eyewitnesses and police reports, a freight truck travelling in the opposite direction collided head-on with the three-wheeler.
The impact was catastrophic, leaving the auto-rickshaw a mangled wreck. While three other passengers sustained injuries, Mr Malek’s condition was critical. Local residents rushed him to the emergency department of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where attending physicians tragically pronounced him dead on arrival.
Profile of a Multifaceted Talent
Abdul Malek was a well-known figure within the St. Martin’s community, blending academic achievement with a keen entrepreneurial spirit.

A Journey Home Across the Sea
The irony of the timing has left his family and colleagues in deep mourning. Mr Malek was in the final stages of preparing for a new life in Saudi Arabia; the training he had just completed was a prerequisite for his overseas employment.
In accordance with his final wish, his family has made arrangements to transport his remains on an arduous journey. Following the completion of a post-mortem examination at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, his body will be taken by road to Teknaf. From there, a trawler will carry him across the Naf River and the turbulent waters of the Bay of Bengal to the secluded shores of St. Martin’s Island.
There, amidst the salt air of the island he loved so dearly, he will be interred alongside his parents, fulfilling a request that transitioned from a social media status to a solemn family duty.
Md. Shami Uddin, the Officer-in-Charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed that the body would be handed over to the grieving relatives once legal formalities are concluded.
