Authorities have launched a homicide investigation after discovering the body of an unidentified woman stuffed inside a plastic sack in Khulna. The grim discovery was made at around 9:30 pm on Wednesday, 8 July, in the Prantika residential area, situated on the outskirts of the city.
The incident has triggered widespread panic among local residents in the quiet suburban neighbourhood. According to community members, suspicion arose when passersby noticed fresh blood seeping out onto the tarmac from a discarded woven plastic sack left abandoned on the side of the road. On closer inspection, the unusual shape of the bundle prompted residents to immediately alert the emergency services.
A team of officers from the Khulna Sadar Police Station arrived swiftly at the scene, cordoning off the immediate vicinity. Upon slicing open the tightly bound sack, they uncovered the body of an adult female. Senior officials from the Khulna Metropolitan Police were quickly dispatched to supervise the initial collection of evidence and to ensure the integrity of the crime scene.
Given the brutal nature of the crime and the total absence of immediate identification documents on the victim, the local police department has opted to enlist specialised central units. Technical teams from both the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have been summoned to the location to conduct advanced forensic gathering.
Detectives are currently treating the case as a calculated murder, with preliminary assessments suggesting that the victim was killed elsewhere before her body was dumped under the cover of darkness. Forensics experts are focusing heavily on collecting biometric data and latent fingerprints from the plastic packaging in hopes of identifying the deceased woman.
Speaking directly from the location, Shofiqul Islam, the Assistant Commissioner of the Khulna Sadar Range Police, emphasised that the primary objective is establishing the victim’s identity.
“The precise motive behind this horrific killing remains entirely unknown at this early stage,” Assistant Commissioner Islam stated. “Our immediate priority is utilising our PBI and CID specialist units to identify the woman. Once we have an identity, we can trace her movements, establish a timeline, and track down those responsible for this heinous act.”
The body has been transported to the Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause and time of death. In the meantime, detectives are canvassing the Prantika residential area for eyewitnesses who may have noticed suspicious vehicular movement or unfamiliar individuals loitering near the scene during the evening hours. Authorities have also requested nearby households and businesses to review their external CCTV camera feeds for any relevant footage that might assist the unfolding inquiry.
