Mirpur’s Academy Building at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium is a daily hub of player movement, where cameras routinely capture routine moments that often become public stories in the age of social media. Yet within this constant activity, some players remain largely unnoticed. Among them has been batter Amit Hasan, who has frequently visited Mirpur quietly and departed without drawing significant attention, occasionally recognised only briefly by those familiar with him.
Amit Hasan’s present recognition stems from his inclusion in Bangladesh’s Test squad for the opening match of the upcoming series against Pakistan. This marks his first call-up to the national side.
Originally from Narayanganj, Amit’s domestic career pathway took a significant turn when, through the influence of Rajin Saleh, he moved to represent Sylhet Division in the National Cricket League. In an era where limited-overs formats dominate attention, competitions such as the National Cricket League and Bangladesh Cricket League have generally received less public visibility, contributing to the lower profile of players specialising in red-ball cricket.
Despite this, Amit has established himself as a consistent performer in first-class cricket. His record includes 49 matches, an average close to 50, 11 centuries, and two double centuries. One of those double centuries was followed by a century in the subsequent innings. He also played a notable innings of 162 runs for the East Zone in the opening round of the recently concluded Bangladesh Cricket League, contributing to a match-winning performance.

Amit made his first-class debut in 2019 in the National Cricket League. Seven years later, he has been selected for the Test squad. Following his selection, he stated that, like every cricketer, representing the national team had always been a goal and that he felt very pleased after receiving the call-up.
The news of his selection, communicated by chief selector Habibul Bashar, resulted in a significant increase in calls and messages, with Amit receiving continuous congratulations from friends and acquaintances. He stated that this attention was consistent with a long-held aspiration and did not cause discomfort.
Despite limited opportunities in franchise-based competitions such as the Bangladesh Premier League and relatively low visibility in the Dhaka Premier Division League, Amit has remained focused on red-ball cricket. In one National Cricket League season, he was among only two players to score over 700 runs. Across his career, he has registered two double centuries and multiple high-impact innings in first-class competition.
Amit has previously been involved in High Performance programmes and Bangladesh A team assignments over a period of three to four years, indicating that he had been under selection consideration for some time.
Now 24 years old, he stated that his focus remains on applying his first-class experience at the international level. He emphasised that the skills and experience gained over years of domestic cricket would be his primary preparation for Test cricket.
A wicketkeeper-batter as well, Amit has cited admiration for Rahul Dravid from his early viewing days, while identifying Mushfiqur Rahim as his preferred batter. He has also played alongside Mushfiqur in domestic competitions such as the National Cricket League and Bangladesh Cricket League, observing his discipline and lifestyle closely.
Amit described himself as preferring to remain focused on the present rather than long-term projections, stating that he avoids extensive forward planning.
Following his selection, he expressed a simple expectation, stating that ups and downs are part of life and that he hopes for continued support even during difficult periods.
