US President Donald Trump’s latest declaration outlining a peace and security framework for the devastated Gaza Strip has been immediately overshadowed by a surge in regional violence. Despite diplomatic efforts to transition towards a stabilized post-conflict phase, Israeli military strikes across the enclave have resulted in at least 19 Palestinian fatalities within a 24-hour period, marking the highest single-day death toll recorded in recent weeks.
Medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital confirmed that among the casualties were three members of a single family killed during an airstrike on a residential apartment in the Al-Susi Tower, situated in western Gaza. The victims were identified as 33-year-old Abdullah Abu Taif, his 29-year-old pregnant wife, Abir Anan, and their five-year-old son, Azzam.
Simultaneously, devastating bombardments were reported across central and southern Gaza. In the north-western district of Al-Karara, near Khan Younis, an attack on an apartment claimed the lives of three members of the Al-Hams family: 38-year-old Mahmoud, his 37-year-old wife Fatima, and their young daughter. Officials at Nasser Hospital reported that three additional individuals sustained severe injuries in the same strike.
In central Gaza, near Deir al-Balah, medical personnel stated that 68-year-old Kamu Abu Muaylik and his 59-year-old wife, Huda, were killed in a strike on their home, whilst two brothers lost their lives in a separate targeted attack while traveling by motorcycle. Further casualties were registered across the territory, including a fatality at the Jabalia refugee camp, two deaths—including a child—following an Israeli drone strike on a tent for displaced persons in the Rimal neighbourhood, and four additional deaths resulting from a strike on a vehicle in Gaza City.
The fresh wave of violence coincides with escalating strain on Gaza’s medical infrastructure. On Saturday, Israeli strikes targeted pharmaceutical warehouses adjacent to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. Dr Munir Al-Bursh, Director General of the Gaza Ministry of Health, condemned the attack, accusing forces of “weaponizing medicine and illness” by destroying critical supply networks. The ministry reported that two medical facilities were completely destroyed, while two others suffered catastrophic structural damage.
This military escalation unfolded shortly after President Trump, alongside the Board of Peace and the International Stabilization Force, announced a deal intended to implement the next phase of a ceasefire framework in Gaza. According to the Board, Hamas accepted a detailed framework for the transition. However, Israeli authorities have yet to issue an official response regarding the proposal. Gaza health authorities report that at least 1,222 Palestinians have been killed and more than 4,053 injured since the temporary ceasefire agreement negotiated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States was originally signed in October 2025.
