Government Appoints New Water Resources Secretary

The Government of Bangladesh has recently appointed Dr. A. K. M. Shahabuddin as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources. The appointment, formalised on 29 January 2026, was issued through a notification signed by Jeti Pro, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Senior Appointment-1 Branch under the Ministry of Public Administration. The notification states that Dr. Shahabuddin, who has been serving as the Rector (Secretary) of the National Academy for Development Administration (NADA), has been transferred and posted to the Ministry of Water Resources as Secretary.

According to the government, the order is effective immediately in the public interest. In his new role, Dr. Shahabuddin will be responsible for formulating policies and principles concerning the country’s water resource management, climate adaptation strategies, river regulation, and irrigation systems. His tenure as Rector of NADA has been marked by notable administrative efficiency and a strong record in policy implementation, skills expected to enhance the ministry’s operational effectiveness.

Simultaneously, another notification from the Senior Appointment-1 Branch appointed Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Department of Environment, as the new Rector (Secretary) of NADA.
