The government has assured full security arrangements for Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), ahead of his return to the country, according to Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
Speaking at a briefing on Wednesday afternoon at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, Alam said:
“We welcome Mr Rahman’s return to Bangladesh. Coordination with the party is ongoing to ensure that all necessary security arrangements are in place.”
The Press Secretary emphasised that the government is consulting with the BNP to implement security measures tailored to their requirements. He added:
“Every effort is being made on our part to guarantee complete safety and protection.”
Government Action on Other High-Profile Cases :
Alam also addressed ongoing investigations into violent incidents, highlighting that the government is treating them with the highest priority:
- Shaheed Sharif Osman bin Hadi Murder Case: Alam stated that the government is actively pursuing leads and conducting thorough investigations. Several arrests have already been made in connection with the case.
- Mymensingh Garment Worker Dipu Chandra Das Murder: The government condemned the killing. Video analysis has led to at least 12 arrests, and legal advisors have informed the advisory council that the case will proceed under the Speedy Trial Act to ensure prompt justice.
The Press Secretary further noted that the government is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of minority communities across the country.
Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahmad was also present during the briefing. Officials reiterated that security measures for prominent political figures, alongside general law enforcement efforts, are being coordinated meticulously to maintain public safety.
