The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has officially issued a comprehensive weather forecast predicting light to very heavy rainfall across various regions of the country on the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. According to the state weather agency, the major Muslim religious festival is scheduled to be celebrated nationwide tomorrow, Thursday, 28 May 2026. The department has indicated that while certain geographic zones will experience light to moderate precipitation, other territories must prepare for sudden occurrences of medium-heavy to exceptionally heavy downpours.
According to the regular meteorological bulletin released by the state department, atmospheric conditions show a high probability of rain or thunder showers in numerous areas across five major administrative divisions on Eid day. These highly affected regions include the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions. Concurrently, several districts situated within the Rangpur, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions are expected to witness temporary gusty or squally winds, accompanied by frequent lightning strikes and light to moderate rainfall.
Regional Breakdown of Precipitation and Temperatures
The state weather agency has provided specific data concerning temperature fluctuations and the spatial distribution of the monsoon-like systems during the festival. Whilst the daytime temperatures across the country are projected to register a slight increase on Thursday, the nocturnal temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged, maintaining typical seasonal conditions throughout the night.
| Administrative Division | Forecasted Rainfall Intensity | Risk of Gusty Winds / Lightning |
| Rajshahi | Medium-Heavy to Very Heavy | High |
| Mymensingh | Medium-Heavy to Very Heavy | High |
| Sylhet | Medium-Heavy to Very Heavy | High |
| Dhaka (Capital) | Light to Moderate (Post-Morning) | Moderate |

Expert Assessments and Precautionary Guidelines
Providing further technical details regarding the localised weather behaviour, senior meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir noted that the highest volumes of cumulative precipitation are heavily skewed toward the northern and northeastern sections of the country. Specifically, the Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Rajshahi divisions carry a significantly higher probability of experiencing prolonged and disruptive rain cycles on the day of the festival.
Conversely, the meteorological data offers some relief for the residents living in the capital city of Dhaka and the commercial hub of Chittagong. Tariful Newaz Kabir clarified that the likelihood of precipitation during the early morning hours in these two metropolitan divisions remains relatively low.
Tariful Newaz Kabir: “Although early morning conditions in certain metropolitan areas may feature overcast skies or dry weather, abrupt spells of heavy precipitation could commence across various parts of the country at any point later in the day. It is therefore highly recommended that citizens take these volatile weather variables into consideration whilst organising their outdoor Eid prayers and executing the traditional ritual sacrifices of livestock.”
The weather authority emphasised that because the festival involves widespread public gatherings for congregational prayers (Eid Jamaat) and outdoor slaughtering activities, early preparation is crucial. Municipal corporations and local management committees across the districts have been advised to keep covered spaces or alternative venues ready to ensure that the religious proceedings can continue smoothly despite any sudden meteorological disruptions.
